As most homeowners do, we looked at some model homes today to get ideas for cabinets. As I toured the house I had forgotten about all the tables, cabinets, wood art frames, wood staircases, and all the ornamental wood products that make up a new and furnished house. As we walked around the model home, my young 14 month old was looking into some of the cabinets, as he loves to play with the doors. Inside I see a green tree sticker, with an official stamp. I first think maybe it's made from FSC wood, but the sticker is different. It was the KCMA ESP sticker.

With all of this technology available it becomes a question of why isn't there more Earthships being built? Without getting into all of the Political and Governmental issues and restrictions, I believe the answer is Power Struggle.

There is a move away from McMansions, as people rethink their homes as part of their changing life priorities. The Not So Big House is part of their Not So Big Life, as described by author and architect Sarah Susanka. There is a move toward reconnecting with communities rather than withdrawing.
Aluminum windows are quite popular with a variety of different colors available. There are also classic timber windows that should be made from Sustainable Homes forests if possible. The windows should be made from high quality materials, because otherwise they will not last very long, and you will pay more in maintenance in the long run. Timber that fades, rots, splits and possibly flakes isn't a pretty site. Your new windows should also be guaranteed.
Millions of people like the Conservers don't have to be at the mercy of the economic tide. They can take charge of their lives to improve their financial well being and quality of life as well by joining the Conserver Economy. The Conserver Economy is green in many respects, emphasizing the careful use of resources, even if the motivation is more about saving money than saving polar bears.
What has caused this distortion in the higher price range of Charlotte homes? That is the subject for my next essay- what it is NOT is the loss of Wachovia as a corporate economical headquarters - that wouldn't explain more than 30-50 homes, tops. I'll explain why in the next article.
